About
A grace note is defined as an embellishing note, an-extra-mile kind of note.  This program is just such a thing for Grand River Medical Center.  It provides the extra special customer and employee care that defines exceptional organizations.
Benefits
·         Patients – An in-hospital music program provides a level of care that treats not only the body, but the spirit as well.  Music is a powerful facilitator of healing.  The value of music to those who are injured, sick, or under a great deal of stress is mysterious and yet profound.
·         Family & friends of patients are also going through a difficult time and can be soothed by well placed music.
·         Staff – We all know that working at a hospital can be a very high-stress job, and music can provide a much needed respite.
·         Community musicians – Musicians range from elementary school students to senior citizens, and this program creates performance and volunteer opportunities for musicians young and old.
For Now
For the moment, we have a great deal of opportunities with a music program.
·         Patient music
·         Summer garden music
·         Dining area music during lunch hours
In the Future
In the future, the opportunities created by a program like this are limitless.  I hope to host an annual fundraiser gala where all the participating musicians can perform, offering them a venue as well as generating funding for the program and creating a fun community event.
With enough musician interest, music could be at the hospital several days a week, even daily.
There is also potential to start an a cappella vocal chorus to further include singers as well as instrumentalists.
The program has potential to branch out into E Deene Moore Care Center, Crossroads Assisted Living, or the VA Home, sharing this service with others who need it.
